BUENOS AIRES, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- Two second-half goals from Colombian forward Rafael Borre fired River Plate to a 2-0 victory over Patronato in the Argentine Superliga on Sunday.
Borre netted after a Matias Suarez cross on the hour mark and struck again a minute later by rifling into the net after Nicolas de la Cruz's clever build-up play. The 24-year-old is currently tied with San Lorenzo's Bruno Pitton as the league's highest scorer, with five goals from nine matches.
River are now third in the 24-team standings with 17 points, four points behind Boca Juniors, who won 1-0 at Defensa y Justicia on Sunday thanks to an early Agustin Almendra strike.
Velez Sarsfield rose to fourth after beating Independiente 2-0 at home, with goals in each half from Max Romero and Thiago Almada.
In other Superliga fixtures on Sunday, Union Santa Fe beat Colon 1-0 and Rosario drew 1-1 at Lanus.
