German shares virtually unchanged at start of Monday trading

BERLIN, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- German stocks remained virtually unchanged at the start of trading on Monday, with the benchmark DAX index losing by 4.04 points, or 0.03 percent, and opening at 12,008.77 points.

The biggest winner among Germany's largest 30 companies at the start of trading was agrochemical giant Bayer, increasing 1.66 percent, followed by jet engine manufacturer MTU with 0.14-percent increase and Germany's largest airline Lufthansa with 0.09-percent increase.

Shortly after the trading started, shares of payment service provider Wirecard increased by more than 2 percent, the biggest gainer during the trading. On Tuesday, Wirecard will hold meeting in New York where the Germany company is expected to update its financial targets.

Shares of Continental fell by 1.75 percent, making Germany's second largest automotive supplier the biggest loser at the start of trading on Monday.

The euro declined slightly by 0.01 percent on Monday morning, trading at 1.0978 U.S. dollars.

The German Federal Statistical Office announced that the order intake of Germany's manufacturing sector had declined by 0.6 percent in August compared to that of July. Orders declined by 6.7 percent year on year.
