JAKARTA, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian Chief Security Minister Wiranto was wounded after he was attacked by assailants with a knife on Thursday in Banten province, national police spokesman Brigadier General Dedi Prasetyo said.

A man and a woman carried out the attack at 11:55 a.m. Jakarta time, when the minister was about to shake hands with residents in Alun-Alun park of Pandeglang district of the province, the spokesman said.

"When the minister was trying to meet the people, suddenly the two perpetrators conducted assaults," Dedi said.

Three others were also wounded in the attack, the spokesman added.

"Wiranto was injured at the front part of his body, (and) head of district police Commissioner Adrianto was wounded at the back of his body and (a resident) Aji Fual was also injured," he said.

He said the male attacker was "influenced by radical teachings of IS."

Investigations are underway to find out the groups that the two attackers belong to, he told local TV One.

"The investigation would focus on which JAD cells they were grouped," said Dedi.

The outlawed Jemaah Anshorut Daulah (JAD) is loyal to the IS group, according to the Indonesian police.

The minister and other victims were rushed to a nearby hospital, and the perpetrators were detained, he said.

The police seized a knife and a scissor owned by the two persons, according to him.

Members of the JAD had staged several terrorist attacks in Indonesia, including the multiple suicide attacks in East Java and Riau provinces in May 2018, and suicide strikes in a police station and Starbucks Cafe in the hearth of Jakarta that killed eight people in January 2016, according to the police.
