ALGIERS, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- Algerian and Tunisian foreign ministers on Thursday exchanged views on developments of the Libyan crisis and means to defuse it, the official APS news agency reported.

Algerian Foreign Minister Sabri Boukadoum met with his Tunisian counterpart Khemaies Jhinaoui on the sidelines of the fourth edition of the Forum of the Union for the Mediterranean held in the Spanish city of Barcelona, APS said, quoting a statement by Algerian Foreign Ministry.

Boukadoum and Jhinaoui discussed "bilateral cooperation and regional issues of common concern, including the situation in Libya," according to the statement.

The two top diplomats emphasized "the pivotal and essential role of Libyans themselves, with the support of neighboring countries, in the process of settling the crisis."

Libya is witnessing battles near the capital Tripoli between the forces of Khalifa Haftar and the forces of the UN-backed government headed by Fayez al-Serraj.
