BERLIN, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- Germany's consumer prices increased by 1.2 percent in September year on year, the German Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) announced on Friday.

According to Destatis, the consumer price index in September "remained unchanged" compared to the previous month.

Prices for energy products in Germany decreased by 1.1 percent and had a "downward effect" on the overall price development, Destatis noted.

Although prices for district heating and natural gas went up by 4.7 percent, the prices for motor fuels decreased by 6.7 percent while heating oil was even 10.5 percent cheaper.

The prices of food were up 1.3 percent year-on-year. Prices for meat and meat products increased by 4.6 percent. However, prices for fats and oils fell "considerably" by 13.4 percent in total, according to Destatis.

Due to seasonal influences, month-on-month price increases were recorded for clothing, growing 7.2 percent. According to Destatis, a major reason for the price increase was the "changeover to the autumn winter collection."

Because German summer holidays had ended, prices for package holidays in September decreased by more than 10 percent compared to the previous month.
