BEIRUT, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- Syrian Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Abdel Karim Ali slammed the Lebanese government for its lack of cooperation with Syrian authorities, Al-Akhbar local newspaper reported on Saturday.

"The Lebanese government does not give any attention or importance to economic cooperation between the two countries especially after the opening of Nasib border in Jordan and Boukamal border in Iraq," Ali said.

He criticized the government for its neglect of benefitting from economic cooperation between the two countries and for submitting to pressure from foreign countries in this regard.

He added that Syria has offered to provide Lebanon with electricity from three different sources at low cost but there were no serious efforts from the Lebanese to benefit from Syria's offer.

Ali also noted that Lebanese banks have been very restrictive with Syrians who are prevented from opening bank accounts in Lebanon.

Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri has, on many occasions, voiced his rejection to conduct any direct dialogue with Syria.

Meanwhile, allies of Syria in the Lebanese government have called for a direct cooperation with the neighboring country to solve a number of issues including the return of Syrian refugees to their homeland.
