XI'AN, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- A senior Communist Party of China (CPC) official has called for strengthening the fight against gangs and organized crime.
Guo Shengkun, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and head of the Commission for Political and Legal Affairs of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks at a meeting on Friday.
Guo, also head of the leading group of the national crackdown on gangs and organized crime, said significant achievements have been made in the campaign against gang crime during the past two years.
He noted the national crackdown has entered a new stage to tackle tough issues, adding that more efforts should be focused on major gang-related cases, the "protective umbrellas" behind the gangs, as well as the source of their finances.
Guo called for the improvement of law, policy and guidance, stressing the importance of handling the cases in accordance with the law.
Long-term mechanisms should be established to solve the problems found during the campaign, Guo said.
