German shares down 0.34 pct as trading starts

BERLIN, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- After increasing by more than 2.5 percent on Friday last week, the German benchmark stock index DAX fell by 0.34 percent, or 42.87 points, at the start of trading on Monday, opening at 12,468.78 points.

The biggest winner among Germany's largest 30 companies at the start of trading was software company SAP, increasing 0.46 percent, followed by industrial gas producer Linde with 0.14 percent and Germany's second largest automotive supplier Continental with 0.10 percent.

SAP's upwards rally slowed down on Monday morning local time, after shares of the German software company had skyrocketed by more than 10 percent during trading on Friday.

SAP had announced better than expected business figures for the third quarter of 2019 as well as the resignation of long-time CEO Bill McDermott.

Shares of Infineon fell by 1.18 percent. The German chip manufacturer was the biggest loser at the start of trading on Monday.

The euro declined by 0.23 percent on Monday morning local time, trading at 1.1017 U.S. dollars.

On Monday, the operator of Germany's largest airport Fraport published its flight traffic figures for September. During the first nine months of 2019, Fraport recorded around 54 million passengers at Frankfurt airport, marking an increase of 2.3 percent.
