RIO DE JANEIRO, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- Brazil's National Trade Confederation (CNC) announced on Monday that they expect 91,000 temporary jobs will be created in the upcoming holiday season.

The figure is the highest estimated in the past six years and, if confirmed, will represent a 4-percent increase year-on-year.

The Christmas season is expected to bring 35.9 billion reals (about 8.7 billion U.S. dollars) to the retail sector in Brazil, the CNC estimates.

According to the CNC President Jose Tadros, the figures would represent a partial resumption of the sector's activity, boosted by low inflation and interest rates and by the government's decision to release resources to the public, which are expected to be spent in retail.

The CNC said that in the states of Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais, which have the largest populations in Brazil, 42,000 temporary jobs are expected to be created in the Christmas season. All the three states are located in southeastern Brazil.

Clothing stores and supermarkets are expected to offer the bulk of the temporary jobs -- 62,500 and 12,800 jobs, respectively, said the CNC.
