TIRANA, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- The European Union (EU) member states have not said their final word yet regarding Albania's start for EU accession negotiations with the EU, Albanian Prime Minster Edi Rama said here on Tuesday.

In a video message posted on social media, Rama said the EU member states have yet to say their final word whether to open negotiations for EU membership for Albania and North Macedonia.

Rama said that the majority of the EU countries want to open accession negotiations with Albania and North Macedonia without any conditions.

According to Rama, the decision that the EU foreign ministers will make on Oct. 18 has nothing to do with what Albania "did or didn't do to deserve a 'Yes'."

"This decision-making is related to what the EU members want to do with the EU reform and the negotiation methodology with the candidate countries," Rama said.

Rama stressed that regardless of the decision the EU member states will make on Oct. 18, Albania will continue its reforms and efforts to become part of the EU.

"Albania will continue its reforms and efforts towards the path to EU membership, not for the EU, but for the Albanians and other generations to come," Rama said.

The EU foreign ministers are discussing on Tuesday in Luxembourg whether to approve membership talks for Albania and North Macedonia.
