TOKYO, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks were mixed Thursday morning, as some investors opted to sell to secure recent profits made, while a weaker yen encouraged others to pick up cyclical and exporter issues.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 31.05 points, or 0.14 percent, from Wednesday to 22,503.97.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 3.35 points, or 0.21 percent, at 1,628.16.
Marine transportation and electric appliance issues led notable gainers, while farm and fishery, and pulp and paper issues comprised those that declined the most by the morning break.
