TRIPOLI, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- German Ambassador to Libya Oliver Owcza on Thursday urged Libyan authorities to release a parliament member kidnapped a few months ago in the eastern city Benghazi.
"Germany fully endorses this call for release of Mrs Seham Sergewa as all other people disappeared by force in Libya," the ambassador tweeted.
"We remind relevant authorities to pursue all necessary efforts and hold the perpetrators accountable," he said.
The United Nations Support Mission in Libya on Thursday demanded Libya's east-based authorities establish the fate of Sergewa, warning that enforced disappearance, including those that are based on political views or affiliation, violate the Libyan Penal Code, the international human rights law, and may also constitute crimes against humanity under the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court.
Earlier in July, unidentified gunmen kidnapped Sergewa from her home in Benghazi, injured her husband and took her to an unknown location.
The UN-backed Libyan government based in the capital Tripoli held the rival east-based army responsible for the incident.
Benghazi is controled by the east-based army, which is currently engaged in an armed conflict against the government over the control of Tripoli.
