DHAKA, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- Nearly half a million Bangladeshis found overseas jobs in the first three quarters of 2019, down 15.33 percent over the same period last year, an official said on Sunday.
The official of the Bureau of Manpower Employment and Training (BMET) who declined to be unnamed told Xinhua, "A total of 470,265 people found jobs abroad in January-September this year, down from 555,393 during the same period in 2018."
He said some 53,181 people found overseas jobs in September this year, down 3.37 percent year-on-year.
Of the total overseas employment in the nine months of 2019, the BMET official said more than two-thirds of Bangladeshi workers found jobs in Middle East countries, including Saudi Arabia, Oman and Qatar.
According to the BMET statistics, 268,112 secured jobs in Saudi Arabia, 53,981 in Oman, 44,684in Qatar and 36,555 in Singapore in July-September period of this year.
The overseas jobs for Bangladeshis in 2018 stood at 734,181.
