PHNOM PENH, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni left here on Monday for Tokyo to attend the enthronement ceremony of Japanese Emperor Naruhito on Oct. 22.

At the Phnom Penh International Airport, the 66-year-old monarch was seen off by Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen and other national leaders.

In a royal message to the Cambodian people on Sunday, Sihamoni said he would be in Japan from Oct. 21 to 24 and during his absence, Senate's President Samdech Say Chhum will assume the title of the acting head of state of Cambodia.

Naruhito, 59, succeeded the throne from his father, Emperor Akihito, on May 1 after the latter abdicated due to health reasons.

Naruhito visited Cambodia in June 2012 when he was the Crown Prince of Japan. Enditem
