MADRID, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- Mauricio Pellegrino on Monday left his position as coach of Spanish La Liga club Leganes.
Pellegrino leaves the side from the south of Madrid bottom of the table with just two points from their first nine games of the season, which have seen them manage just two draws and seven defeats.
The last of those defeats came away to near neighbors Getafe on Saturday afternoon after which it was speculated in the press that Leganes were considering sacking the Argentinean who was in his second campaign at the club.
The club confirmed on Monday that the Argentinean, who has also coached Deportivo Alaves and Southampton, had left his position "by mutual agreement."
Francisco Rodriguez, who last season did an impressive job at Huesca, although he was ultimately unable to save them for relegation, is the early favorite to be named as Pellegrino's replacement, although B-team boss Luis Cembranos will be in charge of the next training sessions until a permanent replacement for Pellegrino is named.
