RABAT, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- Morocco signed the treaty for the establishment of the African Medicine Agency (AMA), a specialized organ of the African Union, the national radio reported on Wednesday.

The treaty was signed on Tuesday in Ethiopia's capital Addis Ababa and the signing of the treaty is part of the commitment of Morocco for the development of the pharmaceutical industry in Africa, it added.

The AMA treaty was adopted by African Heads of State and Government during their 32nd Ordinary Session of the Assembly on Feb. 11, 2019, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The AMA will serve as the continental body that will govern the regulation of medicines and medical products on the African continent.

It will regulate the access to safe, effective, good quality and affordable essential medicines and health technologies.
