UNITED NATIONS, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is "horrified and deeply saddened by the discovery of 39 bodies in a lorry in the United Kingdom," a spokesman said on Wednesday.
Farhan Haq, deputy spokesman for Guterres, said in a briefing that the UN chief made the comments in a tweet saying that "those responsible must be swiftly brought to justice."
The 39 people were found dead in a truck in England's Essex. Earlier on Wednesday, the Essex Police said on its website that "we believe the lorry is from Bulgaria," citing Chief Superintendent Andrew Mariner.
However, according to the press office of Bulgaria's Foreign Ministry, "at present, it has not yet been confirmed whether the truck has a Bulgarian registration."
