JOHANNESBURG, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) -- South African ruling party, the African National Congress (ANC) on Friday marched alongside their Zimbabwean counterparts calling for sanctions to be removed against Harare.

Zimbabwean leaders and selected companies are under targeted sanctions from the U.S. and the west who accused them of human rights violations.

The ANC called on the west and the U.S. to remove sanctions which are impoverishing the citizens.

"We are out in the streets to show solidarity with our brothers and sisters in Zimbabwe. The actions against Zimbabwe have crippled their economy and caused untold suffering to them. An injury to one is an injury to all. Sanctions must go now," said ANC secretary general Ace Magashule while addressing those who were marching at the Beitbridge border with Zimbabwean.

In South Africa's towns of Pretoria, Rustenburg, Durban and Cape Town, people marched against sanctions.

In Pretoria, protesters handed over their demands to the US, UK and other western countries' embassies, demanding the removal of sanctions.

Zimbabwe's Zanu PF spokesperson in South Africa Kennedy Mandaza told Xinhua that the sanctions are affecting the common man on the street.

"These sanctions are illegal, unjustified and must be immediately removed. They must listen to the voice of the people who are calling for their removal. The sanctions militate against the developmental agenda in Zimbabwe and the region."
