Macao's transport, storage sector records 3.04 bln USD revenue in 2018

MACAO, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- The revenue of Macao's transport and storage sector grew by 9.3 percent to 24.53 billion patacas (3.04 billion U.S. dollars) in 2018, the special administrative region's statistic service said here on Saturday.

The latest report from the Statistics and Census Service indicated that the revenue generated from passenger transport services rose by 8.5 percent to 9.82 billion patacas (1.22 billion dollars), attributable to the heightened growth of air transport industry.

On the other hand, following the start of operations of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, the revenue from sea transport inched down by 0.1 percent to 2.40 billion patacas (297.47 million dollars) on account of less visitors and Macao residents travelling by sea.

The expenditure of the transport and storage sector amounted to 20.57 billion patacas (2.55 billion dollars), up by 8.1 percent year-on-year. Operating expenses grew by 7.0 percent to 9.35 billion patacas (1.16 billion dollars).

Meanwhile, purchase of goods and services and commission paid went up by 11.2 percent to 7.14 billion patacas (884.98 million dollars), and compensation of employees grew by 5.6 percent to 4.08 billion patacas (505.70 million dollars).

Gross surplus of the transport and storage sector rose by 16.1 percent year-on-year to 3.96 billion patacas (490.83 million dollars), and gross surplus ratio grew by 1.0 percentage point to 16.2 percent.

Gross value added stood at 8.05 billion patacas (997.77 million dollars), an increase of 10.5 percent.

The number of establishments in the sector increased by 136 year-on-year to 3,190, with 20,502 persons engaged, up by 8.5 percent.
