China, Czech Republic win golds in downhill mountain bike event in SW China

KUNMING, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- Matej Charvat of the Czech Republic and four Chinese cyclists were crowned at the 2019 Longling Songshan International Mountain Bike Downhill Invitational at Longling county, southwest China's Yunnan Province on Sunday.

Charvat won the invitational elite event with a time of 2:10.530, followed by Joshua John Button from Australia and Brage Evensen Vestavik from Norway, having finished the competition on 2:12.396 and 2:18.780 respectively.

The Chinese cyclists prevailed in the other four categories, as Ye Zhengwu from central China's Hubei Province clocked 2:26.046 to take the elite category title, Du Yi from Chongqing won the men's open category in 2:34.446, local favorite Ma Xianchao triumphed the youth category in 2:47.229 and Guangdong cyclist Chen Yingyan won the Women's title in 3:15.555.

A total of 80 cyclists from 10 countries and regions including China, Australia, Norway, Switzerland, Singapore and the Czech Republic took part in the two-day tournament.

Located on Songshan, the competition featured five groups racing on a downhill track 1,500 meters long and 1.2 meters wide, with competitors grouped by gender, age, and skill level.
