YAOUNDE, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- At least seven people were killed and nearly 40 residents affected as rainstorms touched off flood and landslides in Bafoussam, a town of Cameroon's west region, local authorities said Tuesday.
The landslide happened late Monday following heavy downpour that lasted for "several hours," destroying households and "enormous property," local police said.
As of 6:30 a.m. local time, seven bodies have been found, according to local authorities.
Over 20 people were trapped under affected homes, with rescuers still digging up in the area to find survivors.
West region has been experiencing torrential rains throughout October, according to weather forecasts.
