THE HAGUE, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- Polish President Andrzej Duda and his wife Agata Kornhauser-Duda attended the commemoration of 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Dutch city of Breda on Tuesday during their first day of a two-day visit of the Netherlands.

Duda and his wife started the day with a meeting with Dutch King Willem-Alexander and his wife Queen Maxima at the Noordeinde Palace in The Hague. After that they moved on to Breda to attend the commemoration at the Polish Honorary Military Cemetery.

On Oct. 29, 1944, Polish soldiers under command of General Stanislaw Maczek helped to liberate Breda from the Nazi German occupiers during World War II. King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima and the Polish president laid flowers at the monument and the grave of General Maczek, commander of the First Polish Armored Division.

After Breda, General Maczek fought on at several fronts. He survived the war and became an honorary citizen of Breda. Maczek died in 1994 when he was 102 years old. It was his last wish to be buried in Breda.

On Wednesday President Duda is scheduled for a working lunch with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte in The Hague to discuss bilateral ties, economic cooperation, European Union affairs, security and the Brexit.
