RAMALLAH, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki on Wednesday accepted the credentials of the first Omani acting ambassador to Palestine.

Salem bin Habib bin Salme Al-Omairi submitted his credentials to Malki in his office in Ramallah, according to a press statement by the ministry.

Maliki welcomed the new envoy and highlighted the importance of bilateral relations, which saw a recent visit by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to Oman.

The minister also expressed thanks for Omani support to the Palestinians.

Omairi expressed his happiness to be appointed to Palestine and stressed "his country's unwavering support towards the Palestinian cause," the statement said.

Omani Foreign Minister Yousuf bin Alawi announced that an embassy would be opened in Ramallah on a security conference in Bahrain in June.
