S China province busts over 16,000 smuggling cases from Jan. to Sept.

GUANGZHOU, Nov. 1 (Xinhua) -- South China's Guangdong Province has busted 16,220 smuggling cases in the first three quarters of 2019, according to the provincial public security department.

The cases, worth a total value of over 51 billion yuan (7.25 billion U.S. dollars), involved petroleum products, frozen goods, cigarettes and other smuggled products, the department announced on Friday.

The province has cracked 12 smuggling cases each worth more than 100 million yuan and seven cases each worth over 10 million yuan from July to September.

The public security department and customs in Guangzhou, the capital city of Guangdong, busted a smuggling case of petroleum products in September, arresting 38 suspects who smuggled 75,000 tonnes of petroleum products worth 560 million yuan since 2016.
