Malaysian PM to attend ASEAN summit, related meetings in Thailand

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov. 1 (Xinhua) -- Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad will lead the country's delegation at the 35th ASEAN Summit and related meetings in Bangkok, capital of Thailand, on Nov. 2-5, the Malaysian Foreign Ministry said on Friday.

Besides taking part in the summit, Mahathir will join other national leaders from China, India, Japan, and the United States, as well as the UN secretary general for the ASEAN Plus One Summit and ASEAN Plus Three Summit, East Asia Summit (EAS), and Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) Summit.

The summit is the second and final ASEAN summit to be hosted by Thailand as Chair of ASEAN for 2019, with the theme "Advancing Partnership for Sustainability."

"Under the theme, the Leaders are expected to note the work that has been done in implementing the ASEAN Leaders' Vision Statement on Partnership for Sustainability which was adopted during the first Summit in June 2019, also in Bangkok," it said.

Founded in 1967, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) groups Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
