Finland's Rovaniemi airport expanded for winter tourist season

HELSINKI, Nov. 1, (Xinhua) -- The Rovaniemi airport serving the central part of Finnish Lapland has been expanded for the winter tourist season.

With the additional areas opening on Thursday, the airport is expected to handle 9,000 passengers on peak days.

Built in 1992, the original terminal has in recent years been at times very congested. The renovation has doubled the passenger space at the terminal, which will now have eight passenger gates for departures.

In December 2018, some 150,000 people took off or landed at Rovaniemi airport.
