BEIJING, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- A drama seeking to capture the changes in Beijing over the past 30 years through the life of three typical Beijingers has returned to the theater of the Chinese capital.

"Unfold the Year of 1990" will be performed at Beijing Capital Theatre on Saturday and Sunday. It was well-received for the Beijing-themed storyline at its premiere in May.

Directed by Huang Ying, the drama tells the story of three young Beijingers growing up in a traditional courtyard house in Beijing from their youth to middle age.

In a previous interview, Huang said he chose the year 1990 because it was an interesting time with the opening of the 1990 Beijing Asian Games, the first time for the Chinese capital to host an important sports event since the founding of New China in 1949.

"At the time, people live together (in a courtyard house) but life started to have what later proved to be a big transformation," Huang said. "Looking back, one can easily find resonance in life between 1990 and 2019."

Huang, who is also a teacher at Beijing Film Academy, has a penchant for distinct Beijing culture. He has directed five other dramas focusing on Beijing, including "Duan Jin" which stars celebrated actors Zhang Guoli, Wang Gang and Zhang Tielin and has toured overseas.
