Macao's land containerized cargo surges by 36.7 pct in September

MACAO, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- The gross weight of containerized cargo to Macao by land in September surged by 36.7 percent year-on-year to 2,213 tonnes, the special administrative region's statistic service said here on Sunday.

The latest report from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the cargo passing through the Cotai Checkpoint amounted to 1,954 tonnes, an increase of 25.9 percent year-on-year.

Meanwhile, gross weight of port containerized cargo decreased by 16.5 percent to 12,558 tonnes, with cargo being handled at the Inner Harbour (6,515 tonnes) and the Kaho Harbour (6,043 tonnes) dropping by 18.9 percent and 13.6 percent respectively year-on-year.

In the first three quarters of 2019, gross weight of containerized cargo by land expanded by 29.7 percent year-on-year to 14,408 tonnes, while that of port containerized cargo fell by 10.7 percent to 111,445 tonnes.

The Macao International Airport handled 3,246 tonnes of air cargo in September, an increase of 4.4 percent year-on-year. The gross weight of inward cargo (599 tonnes) and outward cargo (2,195 tonnes) grew by 7.3 percent and 11.8 percent respectively, while that of transit cargo (453 tonnes) decreased by 22.9 percent.

In the first three quarters of 2019, air cargo rose by 1.0 percent year-on-year to 28,373 tonnes, the DSEC report added.
