ACCRA, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- A Ghanaian medical doctor has said that China's cooperation with Ghana in health delivery is very beneficial to the West African country on many fronts.
David Afudego, an obstetrician and gynecologist at the Chinese-built Ledzokuku-Krowor Municipal Area (LEKMA) Hospital, is one of those who had the opportunity in 2018 to train in laparoscopic surgery at the Guangdong Provincial hospital for women and children's healthcare.
He said the high-quality human resource development support from the government of China to Ghana's health sector was very critical to the health needs of Ghana.
"It was a very useful experience. We have brought that expertise back to the LEKMA Hospital, and currently, we do laparoscopic gynecological surgery in LEKMA Hospital," he said.
The gynecologist described the medical team as a critical factor in the health service delivery by the hospital.
"The presence of the Chinese medical team has benefitted the lives of the people of Teshie and the people of Accra, and I expect this to expand and enlarge so that many more people will benefit from it," said he.
"It is not just a one-way transfer of culture and ideas, nor a one-way transfer of medical knowledge. Their health practitioners who come to LEKMA also learn from us, so there is that exchange of medical knowledge," he added.
Since the construction of the hospital, many of the local medical staff have received training in obstetrics, gynecology, neonatology, anesthesia, midwifery, and medical engineering at the Guangdong Provincial hospital for women and children's healthcare.
The Chinese government has also provided a variety of modern medical equipment to support the hospital's delivery of quality health care to the people.
