TEHRAN, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- "The U.S. government has realized that its pressures, including those of sanctions, against the Islamic republic have been a failed policy," Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said here on Monday.

"The Americans have clearly realized that their sanctions (against Iran) will not end in their victory," Rouhani said in the cabinet meeting as the Iranians held anti-U.S. rallies on Monday to mark the anniversary of U.S. embassy seizure in Tehran 40 years ago.

The anniversary of the takeover of U.S. embassy in 1979 "has been designated as the national day of fight against the global arrogance in order to enlighten Iranian generations on the long history of resistance and popular struggle against foreign plots," Rouhani was quoted as saying by Tasnim news agency.

Different U.S. administrations have tried various methods to harm Iran over the past decades and interfered in Iran's internal affairs, he said.

On Monday, demonstrators held protest rallies and gathered outside the former U.S. embassy in Tehran, carrying placards for the condemnation of U.S. policies against the country.
