KUWAIT CITY, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- Kuwait will witness rapid growth in passenger and cargo traffic over the next ten years, bringing annual revenues of about 800 million U.S. dollars, an official of Kuwaiti aviation authorities said on Monday.

At the opening ceremony of the fifth meeting of the Directors General of Civil Aviation in the Middle East Region, Sheikh Salman Sabah Al-Salem Al-Humoud Al-Sabah, president of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) of Kuwait, said that it is estimated that the number of passengers in 2037 will reach about 42 million annually in Kuwait.

This will provide about 40 thousand jobs, which creates a huge investment to develop the air transport sector of Kuwait, he noted.

The meeting will discuss civil aviation issues of common interest in the region and facilitate ways of cooperation between aviation authorities in the region to reach the best results, he said.

It also aims to review and exchange technical and specialized information, as well as review the work in aviation security and safety, he explained.

The close cooperation between the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the civil aviation authorities in the Middle East has had a significant impact on the development of the air transport sector in the region, he stressed.
