COPENHAGEN, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- The Danish Armed Forces have begun a major recruitment tour in four cities in Greenland -- Aasiaat, Sisimiut, Nuuk, and Qaqortoq -- in an effort to recruit more Greenlanders.
The effort is part of an increasing need for a Danish presence in the Arctic, said Danish Defense Minister Trine Bramsen on Wednesday.
Last year, the previous government launched the recruitment drive in only the capital of Greenland, Nuuk. Forty-two young people showed up, of which, 22 are currently serving in military service.
Before the drive, about five Greenland conscripts per year were recruited, according to the Ministry of Defense.
