SAO PAULO, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- Relegation-threatened Fluminense boosted their hopes of remaining in Brazil's Serie A championship next year with a shock 2-0 victory at Sao Paulo on Thursday.

Central defender Digao put the visitors ahead with a 37th-minute header and Marcos Paulo finished coolly three minutes later after being set up by Caio Henrique.

It was just the ninth win of the season for Fluminense, who rose to 15th in the 20-team standings, a point clear of the relegation places. Sao Paulo dropped to fifth.

Meanwhile, 18-year-old forward Lincoln came off the bench to score an 89th-minute winner as leaders Flamengo overcame a spirited Botafogo 1-0 in their Rio de Janeiro derby.

The result maintained Flamengo's eight-point lead at the top of the standings while Botafogo dropped into the relegation zone with just 33 points from 31 matches.

In other fixtures on Wednesday night, Gremio secured a 2-1 home win over CSA and Ceara won 2-0 at Internacional.
