MADRID, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- Spain coach Roberto Moreno produced a surprise when he named the Spain squad for the forthcoming Euro 2020 qualifying games at home to Malta and Rumania when he handed a first call up for U-21 international Dani Olmo.
The call-up is a surprise given that Olmo, who began his career in the FC Barcelona youth system, currently plies his trade for Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb, although he has netted two league goals for them in the current season, as well as hitting the target four times in the Champions League.
Moreno announced his squad from the famous Museo del Prado art gallery in Madrid as part of the Prado's 200th anniversary celebrations this year.
His squad is without the injured duo of Jordi Alba and Dani Ceballos, while Alvaro Morata's recent run of five goals in five games for Atletico Madrid has earned him a recall.
Spain are already assured qualification for next summer's European Championship finals, but need a point from the two games to assure they will be among the top seeds.
Following is the Spain squad:
Goalkeepers. David De Gea, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Pau Lopez.
Defenders: Jose Luis Gaya, Dani Carvajal, Jesus Navas, Sergio Ramos, Raul Albiol, Pau Torres, Bernat, Inigo Martinez.
Midfielders: Rodri Hernandez, Santi Cazorla, Sergio Busquets, Thiago Alcantara, Saul Niguez, Fabian Ruiz.
Forwards. Paco Alcacer, Dani Olmo, Alvaro Morata, Gerard Moreno, Mikel Oyarzabal, Rodrigo Moreno.
