BERLIN, Nov. 9 (Xinhua) -- Cologne have parted company with head coach Achim Beierlorzer with immediate effect due to poor results, the newly promoted German Bundesliga outfit confirmed in an official statement on Saturday.

One day after the late-gasp 2-1 loss to Hoffenheim, those responsible at Cologne reacted and released Beierlorzer from all his duties after clinching only seven points from 11 games and slumping to the 17th position.

"I regret that we are forced to take this step. However, after the poor results it is our job to do everything possible for the club to achieve its goals," Cologne's head of the first team Frank Aehlig said.

Beierlorzer joined the "Billy Goats" from lower league side Jahn Regensburg in the summer 2019. The 51-year-old coach managed Cologne for 13 official games ever since his arrival.

"I regret that I could not lead Cologne to the desired success in these four months. I wish the team and the club all the best for the remainder of the season," Beierlorzer told the club's official homepage.

On Friday, Cologne's sporting director Armin Veh stepped down immediately after the Hoffenheim defeat. "I would have liked to complete my job with Cologne until the end but in the current situation it is only logical that we end the cooperation in the short term," he said.

For the moment, Andre Pawlak and Manfred Schmid will take care of the team before the club appoints a new head coach.

"We are now working to find a new Cologne head coach, who can make a new start and bring the team back on the winning track," Aehlig added.
