ABU DHABI, Nov. 11 (Xinhua) -- The Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC) kicked off on Monday with the theme "Oil and Gas 4.0," focusing on the fourth industrial revolution and highlighting the impact of digitalisation and emerging technologies on the sector.

The conference, which will be hold on Nov. 11-14 at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), was opened by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, deputy prime minister and minister of presidential affairs of the UAE.

UAE's Minister of State and Group CEO of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber addressed at the opening ceremony that the oil and gas industry is being disrupted by new technologies, new business models, new forms of energy and a new geopolitical order.

People should rethink the approach of the industry to technology, sustainability and people to make it remain as an essential pillar of the future diversified energy mix, he noted.

This year, ADIPEC has attracted 2,200 exhibitors, a 12-percent increase compared with last time, along with 23 national pavilions, said the organisers.

First held in 1984, ADIPEC has become one of the world's most influential oil and gas exhibition and conference, the largest energy event in the Mideast.

"Abu Dhabi is unlocking the new value in oil and gas," said Christopher Hudson, president of the dmg events which organises ADIPEC.
