KUWAIT CITY, Nov. 11 (Xinhua) -- Kuwait opened on Monday a scientific exhibition to introduce the research achievements of European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN).

The exhibition is organized by the Kuwait Foundation for Advancement of Science (KFAS) in coordination with Kuwait University and CERN.

At the opening ceremony, Adnan Shehabeddine, KFAS director general, said that the scientific exhibition, which is held at the Kuwait University, aims to acquaint students, teachers and the public with the research efforts carried out by CERN and its achievements.

KFAS is keen to promote scientific culture in society, organize various events, and support scientific research based on its role in stimulating science, technology, and innovation, he noted.

Kuwait University President Hussein Al-Ansari stressed in his speech the university's keenness to keep pace with scientific developments in the world and to cooperate with local and international scientific and research institutions.

The exhibition is part of the university's continuous efforts to enhance its participation in international research, knowledge production and technology development, he said.

It will help encourage the teaching of modern physics in middle and high schools and motivating students to pursue their scientific specialties, he noted.

The exhibition includes large modern screens, which can explain the importance of experiments conducted by CERN and show the relationship between basic research in physics and techniques of the present.
