CAIRO, Nov. 11 (Xinhua) -- Arab League (AL) Secretary General Ahmed Aboul-Gheit and leader of the Sudanese Revolutionary Front (SRF) Jibril Ibrahim discussed on Monday the ongoing efforts to reach an agreement between the Sudanese transitional government and the SRF.

During the meeting, Aboul-Gheit highlighted the importance of addressing all outstanding issues as soon as possible in accordance with the agreements signed between the parties, according to an AL statement.

Ibrahim briefed the AL chief on the development of the ongoing peace negotiations, hoping that the AL would support Sudan during the negotiations.

He praised the role played by the AL in sponsoring and participating in all negotiations between the Sudanese government and the armed movements.

In October, the Sudanese government and the SRF signed an eight-point peace declaration in South Sudan's capital Juba, paving the way for political negotiations.

The two sides have also agreed to renew the cessation of hostilities for humanitarian purposes.

The SRF brings together Sudan's Justice and Equality Movement, the Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM)/Minni Minnawi faction and the Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM)/northern sector as well as other groups from northern and eastern Sudan.
