China confirms squad for women's basketball Olympic pre-qualifying tournament

BEIJING, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) -- China released its 12-woman basketball squad for the FIBA women's Olympic Asia-Oceania pre-qualifying tournament on Wednesday, one day before the tournament tips off, according to the FIBA website.

The 12 players representing China at the Olympic Asia-Oceania pre-qualifying tournament are Yang Liwei, Li Yuan, Wang Siyu, Shao Ting, Wang Xuemeng, Li Meng, Pan Zhenqi, Huang Sijing, Gao Song, Sun Mengran, Li Yueru, and Han Xu.

Zhang Ru and Guo Zixuan, who also traveled with the team to New Zealand where matches will be held, are ruled out from the tournament.

China will take on South Korea, who embrace the return of star duo Park Ji-su and Kim Dan-bi in a group A match on Thursday, with New Zealand and the Philippines awaiting them.

Group B features Japan, Australia, Chinese Taipei, and India with matches played in Malaysia.

The top two finishers of each group will advance to the FIBA women's Olympic qualifying tournaments in February 2020.
