GAZA, Nov. 14 (Xinhua) -- Six Palestinians were killed in the central Gaza Strip town of Deir el-Ballah as an Israeli war jet struck an Islamic Jihad leader's house early Thursday.

Israeli war jets intensified strikes on military targets in the Gaza Strip overnight, in response to the barrages of rockets and projectiles fired from the salient into Israel.

Eyewitnesses and local media reports said that the house struck by Israel in Deir el-Ballah town belongs to Rasmi Abu Malhous, a senior military commander of the Islamic Jihad movement in the Gaza Strip.

The witnesses said that Abu Malhous and five other civilians, including two women and three children, were all killed and 10 others were injured.

Ashraf al-Qedra, spokesman for the Health Ministry in Gaza, said that two Palestinians were killed earlier Wednesday night in the southern Gaza Strip town of Rafah.

The ministry said that the death toll has risen to 32 and 95 Palestinians have been injured since Tuesday morning.

Global and regional efforts to keep peace in the Gaza Strip have failed so far, where this wave of tension broke out after Israel assassinated a senior military commander of the Islamic Jihad and his wife in eastern Gaza City on Tuesday.
