HONG KONG, Nov. 14 (Xinhua) -- An outstanding performance from goalkeeper Yapp Hung-fai helped the Hong Kong team hold Bahrain 0-0 in Group C of 2022 FIFA World Cup Asian qualifiers at the Hong Kong Stadium on Thursday.

Bahrain almost took the lead in the 41st minute when Sayed Redha Hashim's shot from inside the box was saved by Yapp.

Bahrain had a chance to leave the Hong Kong Stadium with a win, but Komail Alaswad's shot in the 64th minute went straight into Yapp's hands, ensuring both teams a share of the spoils.

Also in Group C are Cambodia, Iran and Iraq. Hong Kong will take on Cambodia next on November 19.

Forty teams from across Asia have been drawn into eight groups of five teams for the second round of World Cup qualifiers, which will run until June next year.

The eight group winners and four best runners-up will qualify for the AFC Asian Cup 2023 in China, and also for the final round of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers, which will begin in September 2020.
