TUNIS, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- Tunisian President Kais Saied instructed outgoing Prime Minister Youssef Chahed to run government affairs pending formation of a new cabinet lineup, the Tunisian presidency said on Friday.

The president emphasized that the outgoing government would continue its tasks to ensure citizens' safety and needs and proper functioning of state institutions.

Earlier on Friday, Saied officially approved Habib Jemli to form a new government.

Jemli is the candidate of Tunisia's Ennahdha, the Islamist party that won the parliamentary elections on Oct. 6, 2019.

The future prime minister should form his government within a period not exceeding one month from Friday in accordance with the constitution.

Ennahdha (Renaissance) came in the lead in Tunisian parliamentary elections by winning 52 out of a total 217 seats in the new Assembly of People's Representatives (parliament), followed by the Heart of Tunisia party with 38 seats. Enditem
