Nearly 24 pct of goods imported by Ireland is from Britain

DUBLIN, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- Nearly 24 percent of the goods imported by Ireland in the first nine months of this years was from Britain, according to the latest figures released by the country's Central Statistics Office (CSO).

During the January-September period of 2019, Ireland imported a total of 14.63 billion euros (about 16.16 billion U.S. dollars) worth of goods from Britain including Northern Ireland, accounting for 23.03 percent of the value of the country's total imports, said the CSO.

Britain was the largest source of the imported goods for Ireland in the above-mentioned period, followed by the United States and France which accounted for 16.87 percent and 12.27 percent of the value of the country's total imports respectively, showed the CSO figures.

The CSO figures also revealed that Britain was the third largest destination for the Irish goods sold abroad, which accounted for 10.25 percent of the value of the country's total exports in the first three quarters of this year.

This came after the United States (30.76 percent) and Belgium (10.57 percent), said the CSO.

Ireland's total goods imports and exports in the first nine months of this year were valued at 63.52 billion euros and 113.71 billion euros respectively, it said. (1 euro=1.105 U.S. dollars)
