NEW DELHI, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), a body of Muslims in India, said on Sunday that it will file a review petition against the verdict of Supreme Court on Babri Masjid-Ram Janmabhoomi dispute.

"We cannot accept any land in lieu of the masjid (mosque)," the board said.

The decision was taken after board members met Sunday in Lucknow, the capital city of Uttar Pradesh, to discuss whether to file the review petition against the top court's order. Insiders said a majority of the members were in favor of filing a review petition within a month.

"The top court in its judgment said that the mosque was not built by demolishing a temple, yet the mosque was not given to us. So we will file a review petition and ask for what is rightfully ours," said Arshad Madani, president of the Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind.

The decision comes a week after India's apex court delivered its judgement by granting Hindus disputed land where the Babri Masjid (Muslim mosque) once stood. As per the verdict, Muslims will be granted 5 acres of land at a separate "prominent" location in the temple town of Ayodhya, in Northern state of Uttar Pradesh.

The demolition of Babri Masjid in 1992 triggered countrywide communal riots between Hindus and Muslims and claimed over 2,000 lives mostly of Muslims.

Many Hindus believe that the mosque was built over the birthplace of Hindu god, Lord Ram.

Muslims are a minority in India, while as Hindus form the majority.
