BAGHDAD, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- Two rockets on Sunday hit the heavily guarded Green Zone in central Baghdad, an interior ministry source told Xinhua.

The attack took place at night when one of the rockets landed on the bank of Tigris River at the edge of the Green Zone, while the other landed inside the perimeter of the zone, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

There were no immediate reports about casualties in the Green Zone, which houses embassies and some of the main Iraqi government offices.

The heavily fortified Green Zone has been frequently targeted by insurgents' mortar and rocket attacks. The roughly 10 square km zone is located on the west bank of the Tigris River, which bisects the Iraqi capital.

The attack came amid ongoing demonstration at the Tahrir Square and nearby al-Khalani Square, where thousands of demonstrators continued demanding comprehensive reform, fight against corrupt officials, improvement of public services and job opportunities.
