SHANGHAI, Nov. 18 (Xinhua) -- Cai Mingzhao, executive president of the World Media Summit (WMS) and president of Xinhua News Agency, met with senior executives of several international media organizations from Saturday to Monday in Shanghai.
The foreign executives were Mostefa Souag, acting director general of Al Jazeera Media Network; Jim Kennedy, senior vice president of the Associated Press; Stefano De Alessandri, chief executive officer of ANSA; Jamie Angus, director of BBC World Service Group; Narasimhan Ram, chairman of the Hindu Group; Toru Mizutani, president of Kyodo News; and Mikhail Gusman, first deputy director general of TASS Russian News Agency, who are in Shanghai to attend the fourth meeting of the WMS presidium held on Monday.
Cai welcomed the foreign executives and briefed them on the theme of the meeting -- "New Era, New Media and New Vision," and the setting of agenda. He also envisaged media organizations joining hands to meet challenges and enhance cooperation through the WMS.
Cai said Xinhua is willing to continuously explore new areas of cooperation with other media organizations and step up cooperation in areas including new media to enhance the mutual understanding and friendship between people from China and other countries through news reporting.
The foreign executives said that the WMS is an important platform for media organizations from different countries to carry out exchanges and cooperation and that the presidium meeting is convened just in time as the global media industry is undergoing profound transformations.
They also expressed the willingness to further step up exchanges and cooperation with Xinhua.
