New film by directors of critically acclaimed "Mr. Donkey" set for December release

BEIJING, Nov. 18 (Xinhua) -- "Almost a Comedy," a new film by the director duo of the 2016 Chinese hit comedy "Mr. Donkey," is set for release on Dec. 12, according to the China Film Distribution and Exhibition Association.

It tells of three young people, who are living their lives in different ways: One is eager to get rid of a single life, one wants to indulge in sex before getting married and one aims to get a foothold in a big city.

The lives and ideas of the three become closely entangled because of an affair.

Directed by Zhou Shen and Liu Lu, the film features the return of actress Ren Suxi who starred in "Mr. Donkey."

Set in a rural region in north China in 1942, "Mr. Donkey" revolves around the faculty of a small school who pretends that their donkey is a teacher in order to increase their meager budget.

"Mr. Donkey" boasted a score of 8.3 out of 10 on film review platform Douban based on more than 543,000 reviews.
