BERLIN, Nov. 18 (Xinhua) -- With 45.4 million, the number of persons in employment including self-employed people reached the highest level since Germany's reunification in 1990, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) revealed on Monday.

According to Destatis, the number of employed persons in Germany was 0.8 percent higher than in the third quarter of the previous year.

Although the number of people in employment continued to rise, the pace of employment growth had slowed in the course of 2019, Destatis noted. In the first and second quarter of the year, the employment level in Germany was still growing by 1.1 and 1.0 percent respectively.

At the same time, more and more people in Germany were finding a regular job subject to social insurance contributions as the number of employed persons rose by 427,000 year-on-year to 41.22 million in the third quarter.

On the other hand, the number of self-employed people in Germany continued to decline, according to the Destatis. The number of self-employed including family businesses fell by 71,000 to 4.15 million compared to the same quarter of the previous year.

With regard to the different economic sectors in Germany, the highest increase was recorded in construction and services with 1.4 percent and 0.9 percent respectively. In the agricultural, forestry and fishing sectors, on the other hand, the number of people in employment fell by 1.9 percent.
