LISBON, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) -- The Azores Regional Government of Portugal on Tuesday launched a training program for top managers of companies to prepare entrepreneurs for the digital transformation of markets, Portuguese Lusa News Agency reported.

"The dynamics and survival of companies will depend greatly on their ability to adapt to new markets and their response to the emerging and ever-changing regulation that takes place in this area. It is essential first to raise awareness, but secondly to empower companies with the right tools so that they can meet these increasingly global challenges," said Sergio Avila, Vice President of the regional government, quoted by Lusa.

Avila said that applications are now open for a set of six workshops for managers, three to be held on the island of Sao Miguel and three on the island of Terceira, adding that the regional government will fund 85 percent of this training program using community funds.

"Conferences with internationally renowned people" will also be held to "contribute to improving the quality and management skills of entrepreneurs," he said.

"We believe it is essential in this increasingly competitive world that top corporate managers have access to reflection and training on the evolution of key global trends in consumer, customer and management," he added.

The new Portuguese government, which was inaugurated last month, is believed to pay more attention to digital economy to promote the country's role in the fourth industrial revolution.
