LONDON, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- Tottenham have named Jose Mourinho as their new coach on a deal until 2023.

The former Manchester United, Chelsea and Real Madrid boss was appointed after Mauricio Pochettino was sacked by the club on Tuesday, just five months after taking Spurs to last season's Champions League final.

Tottenham have struggled this campaign and currently sit 14th in the Premier League, with club chairman Daniel Levy explaining on Tuesday that it was "time for a change".

Mourinho returns to football just under one year after his sacking by Manchester United, with Levy explaining on the Spurs website that the Portuguese coach was "one of the most successful coaches in football."

"He has won honors at every club he has coached and we believe he will bring energy and belief to the dressing room," he added.

Mourinho has won 25 trophies, including league titles in the four different nations he has worked in. The Portuguese said he was "excited to be joining a club with a great heritage and passionate supporters."

"The quality in the club and in the academy excites me and working with these players is what has attracted me," he added.

Mourinho will make his Spurs debut on Saturday, when his new side visit West Ham United. Enditem
